The Census of Agriculture is an important tool for gathering valuable information for farm communities and decision-makers. It gives an up-to-date picture of the Canadian agriculture sector by identifying trends, opportunities and challenges that have an impact on the industry.
This spring, all Canadian farm operators will be asked to complete the Census of Agriculture 2021 questionnaire.
Statistics Canada has made improvements to this year’s online questionnaire, making it easier and faster to complete. For example, the questionnaire will automatically add totals and skip sections that do not apply to a farmer’s specific operation.
Other sources of data, wherever possible, will be used by Statistics Canada to collect the data for the census. This will reduce the number of questions farmers are being asked. Farmers can also familiarize themselves with the questions by consulting the 2021 Census of Agriculture questionnaire. While some adjustments were made, most questions are identical to those asked in 2016.
A letter will be sent to all farm operators in May 2021 with instructions on how to complete the questionnaire. All farm operators are required to participate and will have until the beginning of September 2021 to complete their questionnaire.
